Italian Passion in Nine - The Musical

Picture
As part of my research for the next AMOS musical, this weekend I had the priviledge of seeing Mayhem Musical Theatre Companys production of the spectacular award winning Broadway smash 'NINE' at the Arthur Cotterell Theatre, Kingston Upon Thames.

Recently released as a movie starring Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz, the musical NINE follows the story of Guido Contini, a self-centred, egotistical and womanising Italian movie director in the midst of a personal and creative crisis.

With only one week before shooting begins on his latest epic production, and no script in sight, Guido frantically struggles for inspiration whilst juggling the numerous women in his life; including his devoted wife, his mistress, his muse, and his incessant producer. As his present world collides with voices from his past, and his professional dilemmas begin to tear apart his personal life, Guido must desperately find a balance between his artistic integrity and his obsessive desires.

NINE is a daring, provocative and passionate musical brimming with love, lust, sumptuous wit and humour. A fantastic night’s entertainment – with the general theme being “Live today as if it may become your last!”

The show was fantastic, so good I forgot I was watching an amateur production. Guido was convincingly played by the handsome and charming Antonello Caboni, whileChrissy Quinn sparkled as Carla.
