"WHEN you come out of a Lloyd Webber-Rice musical, singing Have Another Cup of Tea then you can perhaps understand why their first collaboration has rarely been performed. Carol Robinson deserves praise for choosing this show to mark her directorial debut – and making a success of it. The story (short at a little over ninety minutes) of how Dr Barnardo set up his first refuge for London’s homeless children has few strong songs, although the cast performed admirably throughout. Paul Marsh, excellent as Barnardo, was perfectly complemented by Ann Sinclair as Syrie. Narrator John Parker linked the scenes with style and there were notable performances by a feisty Linda Bagnall (Rose) and Heidi Hodgkinson, a jewel in the cast as Jenny, but the children nearly stole the show. With a flexible set and great costumes, music from Neil Streeter and his trio, the show looked and sounded good throughout." Alan Johns The next AMOS production will be a concert entitle "Strictly Musicals"
A celebration of Musical Theatre, the concert will feature some of the most famous songs from modern musicals currently enjoying success in the West End. It will be a mix of solo, duet and ensemble show tunes, and will also feature two big performances from local children in the form of Annie and Oliver medleys. Director Joe Crawley will be giving an introduction to the production on Tuesday 29th March at St Micheals Church Hall, Weyhill Road, Andover from 7.30pm onwards. There will then be full chorus rehearsals on Thursday 31st March and Tuesday 5th April. There will then be rehearsals for those wishing to audition on Thursday 7th April, Tuesday 12th April and Thursday 14th April, before the auditions take place on Tuesday 19th April from 7.30pm onwards. Over 16's wishing to take part in the production should contact Kathy Rawles. Chorus rehearsals will recommence on Thursday 21st April. More news will be released soon about the audition process for Children For more information visit the show page CLICK HERE 7/3/2011 AMOS in the Andover AdvertiserHaving been involved in designing the set for The Likes of Us I am a tad biased, but I have to say - it's amazing!!!
If you came to see our production of Scrooge, then you will remember that we used a projector to create part of the scenery? Well we are doing it again this time, only we are using not just one, but, wait for it, two projectors, to create a large scene in the middle of the stage!!! This is really exciting stuff as it's the first time that we have used projection as the main source of scenery and we're really pleased with the outcome. Combined with an interesting backdrop and fantastic lighting design by Eddie & Claire Nias, we think it will look really impressive. Tickets are still available from The Lights Box Office 01264 368368 6/3/2011 Band Call for The Likes of UsThis is often most peoples favourite part of being in a production... having spent months rehearsing with just a piano, we finally get to sing with the full band on the sunday before the show. It's great!
Finally we get to hear the lovely tunes and melodies that really bring the music to life. It's really exciting and gives everyone that extra boost before the lull of the 'tech' rehearsal, and then we have the 'dress' rehearsal to look forward to. What fun. Tickets are still available from The Lights Box Office 01264 368368 Well that's it, the last rehearsal in the hall before the show next week!
It went really well and everyone was full of energy tonight, we're really looking forward to getting into The Lights at the weekend and running it properly! The children are really confident now, singing out and really acting their parts, its great to see. Carol has done such a great job working with them. We think this show is going to really impress, not only with the wonderful music, a given considering it was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice, but its the set that is the real piece de resistance! Don't forget that a percentage of the box office sales for this production will be donated to Barnardo's childrens charity. Tickets are still available from The Lights Box Office 01264 368368 |
