On stage at The Lights, 10-12th November 2011, Strictly Musicals is a celebration of musical theatre! This concert features the best of the west end and is guaranteed to be an entertaining night out for the whole family. With something for everyone, this concert will showcase the talent of our award nominated theatre company including songs from Wicked, Legally Blonde, Spamalot, Mamma Mia, Phantom of the Opera and Chicago, as well as old favourites such as Annie and Oliver. ![]() We can now confirm that the Charities Commission as awarded us with charity status as of Tuesday 13th September 2011. Following the announcement at our EGM in July, our committee spent most of August filling in forms and signing documents for our application. We are absolutely thrilled that our hard work has paid off. Being a charity will bring several benefits to Andover Musical Theatre Company as well as a financial saving of about £2500 per year thanks to discounts on things like advertising and the ability to reclaim VAT. In addition we can claim Gift Aid on all donations made to the society including fees paid by both our members and friends. Best of all we can officially collect monies for ourselves using collection buckets giving us the opportunity to raise funds for our future development. Our President Sue Parker will be officially launching our new name and charity status at our FREE concert on Saturday 17th September, 4pm at The Lights, Andover, where we will welcome the Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Zillia Brooks and local MP Sir George Young. Entry to the concert is completely FREE however tickets are on a first come first served basis so we advise early arrival. The next AMOS production will be a concert entitle "Strictly Musicals"
A celebration of Musical Theatre, the concert will feature some of the most famous songs from modern musicals currently enjoying success in the West End. It will be a mix of solo, duet and ensemble show tunes, and will also feature two big performances from local children in the form of Annie and Oliver medleys. Director Joe Crawley will be giving an introduction to the production on Tuesday 29th March at St Micheals Church Hall, Weyhill Road, Andover from 7.30pm onwards. There will then be full chorus rehearsals on Thursday 31st March and Tuesday 5th April. There will then be rehearsals for those wishing to audition on Thursday 7th April, Tuesday 12th April and Thursday 14th April, before the auditions take place on Tuesday 19th April from 7.30pm onwards. Over 16's wishing to take part in the production should contact Kathy Rawles. Chorus rehearsals will recommence on Thursday 21st April. Images courtesy of Phil Evans www.philevansphoto.co.uk 21/2/2011 Concert for Life success!The audience at last nights Concert For Life at The Lights, hosted by Andover Carnival were treated to an evening of entertainment from a mix of local performers.... from the very young stars of The Long Overdue Theatre School, and the dancers from the Ruby Slippers Show School to the likes of talented singer Jake Ward and not forgetting our very own AMOS members!
Despite a few technical hitches, the show seem to be well-received with the audience responding to the funny and sometimes moving performances of pop songs, ballads and showtunes. The Concert For Life is organised by Andover Carnival committee and has been produced by Mark Lazenby and Maureen Fail, to raise money for the Rotary International Shelterbox Appeal. Our AMOS representatives will be singing songs from Cabaret, Les Miserables, Evita, Jekyll & Hyde and Little Shop of Horrors to display our talent and versatility! Director Joe Crawley met with the committee to share his creative vision and we will be releasing more information very soon. The main aim of the concert is to showcase some of the newer musicals that have hit the West End in the last few years. Moving on for the traditional classics that we have performed over and over, to make way for the modern shows such as Avenue Q, Spamalot and Wicked.
