15/9/2009 AMOS announces 2009 AMOS AWARDS!!!The last 2.5 years have been a bit of a whirlwind for AMOS, what with our committee restructure and our return in 2007 to the refurbished Cricklade Theatre - now known as The Lights.
The restructure has proved a great success, and building on the foundations laid by Sue and John Parker, Carol and the team have made excellent headway developing the society into a modern, forward-thinking group. The facilities at The Lights have enabled us to put on some more challenging and elaborate shows... We started off in 2007 with 'My Fair Lady' which was a great success, followed in 2008 by 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (which was nominated for three Curtain Call Awards), and 'The Pajama Game', then in 2009 there was 'The King and I' - our most financially succesful show for quite some time! We are now working on 'Scrooge' due to take to the stage 1st-5th December which we are sure will be a popular show. To celebrate our success over the last five shows we have decided to hold an awards ceremony to reward those who have performed will both on and off the stage with AMOS! The awards presentation will be incorporated into the Christmas Ball on 19th December at The Quality Hotel. As well as the typical awards for Best Actor and Best Actress etc, there will also be some fun awards, and some extra special ones to be announced closer to the time! ![]() I went to see the Lion King on Sunday and after searching the internet for places to park, I came across the City of Westminster Theatreland parking website and noticed that they are offering a special deal for theatre-goers - 50% of all parking! I drove in to London from Andover (it took me about and hour and 15 mins) and parked in the China Town car park, a short walk from Leicester Square, Piccadilly and Covent Garden, centrally located to numerous theatres. I arrived at 12 noon and left at 11pm and the parking cost me just £14.50! HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR DISCOUNT Drive to a participating car park (see below) and take a paper ticket upon entry At the theatre, ask the kiosk staff to validate your paper ticket Return to the car park and insert your paper ticket in the payment machine A 50% discount will be automatically applied to the standard casual tariff PARTICIPATING CAR PARKS Chinatown Leicester Square Marble Arch / Park Lane Oxford Street Pimlico Soho Trafalgar Square 11/9/2009 Nine - The Musical - Coming soon!![]() This is something I'm very excited about so I had to add it to the news feed! A new musical film with an all-star cast including Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren & Stacy (Fergie) Ferguson!!! Based on the original 1982 Broadway production of “NINE,” with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, (it won five Tony Awards including Best Musical), “NINE” is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Fergie) and his mother (Sophia Loren). The film is directed by Rob Marshall the guy who did the film version of "CHICAGO" starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rennee Zellwegger. You can watch the trailer here http://weinsteinco.com/#/film/nine The film is expected to be release in November or December - I cannot contain myself! Louise x ![]() The BBC has announced that Lord Lloyd-Webber's will host a new Saturday night talent show that will search for a girl to play Dorothy in a new West End production of The Wizard Of Oz. The winner of the programme will star in a new West End production of the popular musical. It follows BBC One's I'd Do Anything, Any Dream Will Do and How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? which also found musical stars. 'Iconic role' Lord Lloyd-Webber, 61, said the previous talent shows he had made with the BBC had "provided an incredible shot in the arm for musical theatre in Britain". Jodie Prenger won the role of Nancy on I'd Do Anything last year "I can't wait to work with the BBC again in the hunt for Dorothy - an iconic role of course made famous by a young Judy Garland in the film in 1939," he added. "But, as a cat man myself, however, I approach casting Toto with considerable trepidation." The search for Dorothy will begin with auditions across the UK in early 2010 with the programme airing later in the year. Lord Lloyd-Webber's fellow judges have yet to be announced. |
