Despite a few technical hitches, the show seem to be well-received with the audience responding to the funny and sometimes moving performances of pop songs, ballads and showtunes. A sell-out success, the concert sold around 240 tickets, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Rotary International Shelterbox Appeal. www.andovercarnival.org www.shelterbox.org www.myspace.com/jakewardmusic 18/2/2011 AMOS newsletter BACKSTAGE is out now!AMOS members Louise Ellison, Paul Marsh and Ann Sinclair are performing with a group of other local singers in a charity concert at The Lights this coming Sunday 20th February 2011.

St Micheals Church Hall, Colebrook Way, Andover. More information to follow Yet another future show booked! With the rules for booking show becoming ever tighter, we have had to move quickly to apply for shows we wish to perform in the future, so it is with great pleasure that we announce we have been granted the rights to perform a ground-breaking new musical for AMOS - 'Jekyll & Hyde' This dark and somewhat sinister new musical is a step in a different direction for AMOS as never before have we staged something quite so dark and scary! But be assured that this is one hell of a production. The story is as gripping as it is moving, and the musical numbers are spine-tingling fantastic, with a hint of Les Miserables about the chorus pieces and some rousing solo songs. Opening night is Halloween 31st Octber 2012, so put a note in your diary for a thrilling night of entertainment! We are very excited to announce that our application has just been approved to perform The Sound of Music! The show will hit the stage at The Lights in April 2012. Following an incredibly successful run in the West End and on tour in the UK, Rogers and Hammersteins 'The Sound of Music' has finally been released for amateur societies, so we were quick to secure our licence. A family favourite, this much-loved has been voted the most popular musical of all time! We are very much looking forward to staging it as it has a bit of everything - war, love, nuns and children! We plan to have two teams of children for this production and like we did for 'The King And I' we will hold a free workshop and open auditions from which we will make our selection. More information will be coming soon so watch this space! We are very excited to announce that our application has just been approved to perform The Sound of Music!

Director Joe Crawley met with the committee to share his creative vision and we will be releasing more information very soon. The main aim of the concert is to showcase some of the newer musicals that have hit the West End in the last few years. Moving on for the traditional classics that we have performed over and over, to make way for the modern shows such as Avenue Q, Spamalot and Wicked. We are just finalising the name and the poster design and then we will give you a sneak preview of some of the songs to be featured. The concert, which was a sell-out, included performances from a number of local performing arts groups and soloists specially selection by the Major of Test Valley, Councillor Zilliah Brooks. Heather Whittam, Director of The Lights, and organiser of the concert was full of praise for those who performed, she said "I cannot praise the hard work of you and the performers enough and all together it made for a fabulous show which everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy." |
