Southern Daily Echo Review for The Sound of Music

Picture
THE Lights, er…hills are alive with the sound of music.

A popular am-dram choice means I am on number three so far this year and know the original like the back of my hand, so what surprised me was Ann Sinclair’s interpretation of Maria: feisty, warm and bubbly –
not like the original but perhaps even better.

Paired with Martin Noke as Captain Von Trapp, the show took off.

All the principals were believable, sang well and made the parts their own, from the graceful Fraulein Schrader (Kizzy Romer-Lee) and cheeky Uncle Max (Paul Marsh) to the lively Von Trapp children.

The flow was interrupted occasionally by set changes and musical fillers by the talented orchestra and often by the noisy matinee audience but the cast reclaimed the show whenever they hit the stage.

The set, costumes, lighting and sound fitted the bill.

Edelweiss may haunt my dreams but the quality of this production means I’m not jaded…yet!

The Sound of Music - Set Build Completed!

Picture
Thanks to the hard work of Mac, Ed, Claire, Jerry and anyone else I have forgotten, the set was construction was completed today.

With the giant facade of the Von Trapp residence this was no mean feat.

This has been one of our most challenging, yet versatile sets to date, and we couldn't have done it without the help of all the members who volunteered to help make the various elements over the last few weekends. Great team work!

Thanks to Barton Stacey VIPs

Picture
Thanks again to Ian Dewey of Barton Stacey VIPs for lending us their radio microphones for our production of The Sound of Music. With seven children and numerous nuns we didn't have enough to go around, so we are very grateful to Ian and the VIPs for their generosity.

Keep an eye out for VIPs performing Boogie Nights - The Musical at The Lights in July!!!

Big thanks to LEE Filters!

Picture
Thanks to Eddie Ruffell at Lee Filters for donating a rather large quantity of lighting gels for our production of The Sound of Music. These can be very costly for a production of this size so we are very grateful for their generosity.

Tickets selling fast for The Sound of Music!!!

Picture
Tickets sales are doing well for The Sound of Music, in fact, its our fastest selling show yet! With at least 3 of the size performances having already sold half the seats, we are on target for a sell out run.

Since we changed our name last year, we have really raised our profile, and our concert "Strictly Musicals" enjoyed record tickets sales in November.

The Sound of Music is said to be the most popular musical of all time, so its no surprise that it is proving popular with the local audience.

The production is on stage from 24th-28th April at The Lights. Tickets are available from The Lights Box Office 01264 368368
