THE Lights, er…hills are alive with the sound of music. A popular am-dram choice means I am on number three so far this year and know the original like the back of my hand, so what surprised me was Ann Sinclair’s interpretation of Maria: feisty, warm and bubbly – not like the original but perhaps even better. Paired with Martin Noke as Captain Von Trapp, the show took off. All the principals were believable, sang well and made the parts their own, from the graceful Fraulein Schrader (Kizzy Romer-Lee) and cheeky Uncle Max (Paul Marsh) to the lively Von Trapp children. The flow was interrupted occasionally by set changes and musical fillers by the talented orchestra and often by the noisy matinee audience but the cast reclaimed the show whenever they hit the stage. The set, costumes, lighting and sound fitted the bill. Edelweiss may haunt my dreams but the quality of this production means I’m not jaded…yet! With the giant facade of the Von Trapp residence this was no mean feat. This has been one of our most challenging, yet versatile sets to date, and we couldn't have done it without the help of all the members who volunteered to help make the various elements over the last few weekends. Great team work! 20/4/2012 Thanks to Barton Stacey VIPsThanks again to Ian Dewey of Barton Stacey VIPs for lending us their radio microphones for our production of The Sound of Music.
