Andover Actor Wins Award!
Eddie Nias, a member of Andover Musical Theatre Company, has been presented with a Curtain Call Award by the Southern Daily Echo for ‘Best Actor in an Opera’ in recognition of his performance as The Major General in their 2013 production of The Pirates of Penzance. Eddie was praised by the judges who described him as a director’s dream, superb as the manic Major-General. Although nominated under the Opera category, the version of The Pirates of Penzance performed was very much a modern musical and Director Carol Robinson was praised by for delivering a funny, fast-paced, visually attractive production, described as an ‘altogether faultless show’. The Curtain Call Awards, known as the Oscars of the amateur theatre world, cover the whole of the Hampshire area, and the judges review hundreds of productions throughout the year, nominating the cream of the crop for the annual awards. This is not the first time that Andover Musical Theatre Company have been recognized for their talent; they have previously been nominated for over ten different awards in the Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Scenery and Props and the most coveted award - Best Musical for their 2012 production of Jekyll & Hyde. The company’s next production is the deliciously salacious musical The Witches of Eastwick on stage at The Lights 29th April – 3rd May. Superb as the manic Major-General as well as taking (joint) credit for two very professional-looking sets, lighting and sound design." Jekyll & Hyde, Andover Musical Society. Impressively staged stabbings, slashed jugulars and gunshot on a great set. Best Opera/Musical Jekyll and Hyde, Andover Musical Theatre Company. Certainly did what it said on the tin, blessed with exceptionally gifted performers. The awards ceremony will be on 25th January 2013.  AMOS are thrilled to announce that we have been nominated for not one, but two categories in the 2010 Curtain Call Awards!
The prestigious awards, organised by the Southern Daily Echo are judged by team of astute reviewers who travel the length and breadth of the county and further afield – to take a look at the best amateur theatre has to offer in Hampshire. Presenting the sort after accolades annually at a glittering awards ceremony. Paul Marsh has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, the awards judges commented on his performance as Francis Fryer “He had the audience hooting with laughter at his impersonation of an actress.” Neil Streeter has also been nominated, for Best Musical Director. The judges said, “The show was a musical delight – every song was sheer pleasure and the whole Company numbers created magical and heartfelt performances.” The winners will be announced at the annual Curtain Call Awards Ceremony on 29th January 2011. Fingers crossed!  Congratulations to Paul Marsh who has been nominated for a Curtain Call Award - Best Actor in a Musical - for his performance of Ebenzer Scrooge!
The judges said that Paul had a beautiful singing voice and had excellent characterization. The awards will take place on the 29th January 2010 at The Devere Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton. Fingers crossed! |
